I have had the pleasure of working with Attorney Anne Treimanis to help my children. She is a force to be reckoned with in the world of special education! She knows everything there is to know about fighting for children, but what I've found most impressive is that while she is fighting the toughest battles she always remains dignified and extremely well respected. There are so many times I wish I could just jump into her head and read her thoughts ahead of time - and I'm so grateful for this book because now I finally can! She has figured out all of the most practical ways to get exactly what you need for your child. She knows how to fight hard, and yet maintain a respectful working relationship with the school. When I am furious and ready to go to battle I just see her words "Don't view the school as your enemy"! This book is my step by step guide for helping my children in school. Simply put - it is genius! You will be amazed of all of the things that she suggests that you never thought to think of - and even more amazed by what a difference her suggestions make. Simply put - If you are fighting for a child with special needs - you NEED this book!
Attorney Treimanis has provided a wealth of information on special education for parents of children with disabilities.There are plenty of great tips for parents, that are practical and helpful in situations we often encounter in this process. Her tips on handling difficult conversations with the school and what to do before and after an IEP meeting are particularly useful for parents new to the process.
Most of all, the appendix in the book is worth its weight in gold - for parents and professionals! Amazing sample documents that I have not found in any book or online source. I have already used a few of them. I will be carrying this book with me to my IEP meetings.
